Council chairman shows love for local charities at Valentine’s ball

North Devon Council Julie Hunt is holding Valentine’s Ball in Barnstaple on February 10

The chairman of North Devon Council will be showing her love for two local charities at a Valentine’s Ball in Barnstaple next month.

Councillor Julie Hunt is hosting the special black-tie event in aid of Royal Devon Hospitals Charity (formerly known as Over and Above) and North Devon Hospice at The Barnstaple Hotel on Saturday, February 10.

Tickets are £42 each or £380 for a table of 10 and include pre-drinks and a three-course dinner, followed by an auction and live music.

Cllr Hunt, who is serving her third term as council chairman, said the civic event promised plenty of fun and fundraising for two local causes close to her heart.

“I am proud to serve as an ambassador for the council and to be able to support two wonderful charities, which do so much for people in North Devon, including my own family,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to be able to support their vital work while providing a fun night for friends, family and local business people to enjoy.”

North Devon Hospice provides specialist care and support to people who are affected by a life-limiting illness. Royal Devon Hospitals Charity raises money to provide hospital facilities over and above those provided by the NHS, including the Fern Centre, the cancer and wellbeing centre at North Devon District Hospital.

Josh Allan, fundraising manager for Royal Devon Hospitals Charity, said: “The Fern Centre is only here thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of people in North Devon and the centre continues to be funded by the community, providing local cancer patients and their families with access to a range of free services, including complementary therapies and counselling.”

Ali Hunt, head of fundraising at North Devon Hospice, said: “Being here to care for people in our community facing cancer and other life-limiting illnesses is a real privilege, and one that is only possible thanks to wonderful people like Julie raising vital funds. On behalf of every patient and family we support, thank you.”
