Westward Ho! musician Kevin Green has recorded a powerful and personal cover of Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven to raise funds for Royal Devon Hospitals Charity.

Kevin has released his own version of the song on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music and other music streaming platforms in memory of his daughter Rachel, who died on March 11, 2022.

He said he originally planned to record a large-scale production of the song with other local musicians and only made the rough home recording of the song in April last year to ‘get a feel’ for how it would sound.

He said he wasn’t ready to take the idea forward at the time, but having recently re-listened to the recording, decided to release the raw version instead.

“There is an emotion in the vocal that I think is more meaningful than maybe a larger production would achieve,” said Kevin.

Kevin and his family raised £1,400 to support Victoria Ward at North Devon District Hospital in 2022 and he said he hoped to be able to raise more money for the ward, which specialises in the care of cardiology and haematology/oncology patients.

“Every listen and download will help raise money for our local hospital so please search for Beano Green Music on your favourite music streaming site and also share with your friends and family – the more we can raise the better.

“I think Rachel would have liked that, although she would probably just have said ‘shut up dad and go away!’,” he joked.
