Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Senior Transformation Project Manager Jonny Foster is this week taking on an epic 1,050-mile cross-Britain cycle ride in aid of our Super Theatre Appeal.
Jonny set off from Land’s End on Saturday morning and is cycling solo, spending around 10 hours in the saddle each day, covering between 80 and 140 miles in a bid to reach John O’Groats on September 28.
His route will take him and 8kg worth of kit through Tiverton, Bristol, Worcester, Warrington, Penrith, Edinburgh and Inverness before two gruelling days across the Scottish Highlands on route to the most northly part of the British mainland.
Jonny said he wanted to support the fundraising for the project after learning more about the difference it will make to patients across Devon.
He said: “Having seen the impact that conditions like diabetes, strokes and heart disease can have on rural communities in Devon, having a state-of-the-art theatre that can perform complex vascular procedures will be a game-changer for our patients.
“Like all significant NHS projects, this programme needs the support of everyone in the region to come together and get behind it. This isn’t just about a hospital getting a new theatre; it is about the lives it will save, which means we’ll save mums, dads, sisters, brothers, and everyone in between.”
